IN DEEP

“Abandon all hope, you who enter here.” (Alighieri,  Dante; The Divine Comedy).

Note: This game is incomplete and is competing in a Game Jam - please leave comments below - in particular I'm interested in the feedback on the core mechanic of the player being tethered and so limited in how to safely get through the level. Is this working? Is this worth finishing out the game post-jam? - Thanks!

Get from the dive cage to treasure and back! You have a limited amount of air hosing and your range is short. You can only be off the hose for quick moment. Just enough for a last desperate dive to get to back to safety.

Game-play:

You arrive at the sea bed in your trusty dive cage, wearing an old school diving helmet. The big heavy kind with a portal in front and a hose connecting you to your air supply up on the surface. What could go wrong? Your goal is to get the treasure (represented by a floating mine) and return to the cage, without breaking the hose. Or at least without breaking it for too long. When you go too far you will disconnect from the air hose. You have a few seconds to touch any part of your hose to reconnect. Can you make it across the gap back to where you were before? If not, the game will restart. The story is influenced by Dante's 'the Divine Comedy' and as you travel deeper into the depths each new world theme is taken from the Inferno's Circles of Hell.

Issues:

  • Much of the story and plot is not yet in place.
  • Dialog system is not in place yet.
  • Only 3 levels, and they are mostly unfinished right now.
  • The player is represented by the game icon (diver helmet).
  • The goal "treasure" is represented by a sea mine.
  • Sometimes you become detached from the air line, but cannot die. So, bonus? Go back and you might re-attach.

Jammin':

This game is being developed as part of the Godot Wild Jam # 41. If you're playing this game during the jam be sure to let me know what you think down below. Also you're invited to vote for your favorite game. You don't even have to vote for me! Also please be aware of the issues mentioned above, as the game will not be quite finished as of the start of the jam.

I like the core of this game and intend to finish it out after the jam is over. If you come back after the jam please leave a comment! I'd love to hear from anyone that returns to see it finished.
