TO HECK WITH IT!

Plot:

You play as a teenager who makes an unfortunate wish to not be bored. This is immediately granted, but not in the way one might hope. When you confront the devil he agrees to send you home, but he might grant you some more wishes if you run a few errands for him first.

Controls:

  • A and D to move SPACE to jump.
  • Arrow keys should work.
  • My control template has controllers in it, but I did not test this.

Development:

The first area, that would eventually be the hub, is sparse with you only having to go up to the Devil to trigger the portal release. The proc-gen levels are even less developed.  I seem to get bogged down in getting some of the systems working and don't leave enough time to build the actual plot or levels into the game.

But in any case I'm proud of this one.  The concept was fun, the art is very much first pass, but it's all mine. Got the 9-patch-recht working.

The immediate start into a falling menu scene in particular is fun, IMO.

Let me know what y'all think.

I'm surprised the art here is just 1st pass.  This stuff is honestly some of the most unique art I've seen this whole Jam, and not just the characters but the dialogue boxes and environments as well!  Cool job with the 1st pass I like the idea of custom generatable terrain.

Hey thanks!

Regarding the art, I’d probably make the dialog borders a bit tighter and thinner, they dominate the space. And the background isn’t supposed to be white with purple, but all one color. Plus I want to add a script to the dialog scene so I can just instantiate one and go.

The rest of the art would be more pixels, shading, subtle color variations, maybe a layer of dripping slime - you know - the usual stuff.

And finally the arms movement isn’t fully realized. It’s just what the physics does and it’s barely acceptable. Like he is supposed to flailing about when falling, but never got that far.
